War games – Peace on May 6, 2024

Hello people who hate to be robbed,

Today’s Peace Bit might make you angry. Because we are indeed being robbed. We are being robbed blind by the sneaky, slimy, greedy military-industrial complex which is grabbing our public money from our legislators. Our legislators are supposed to be custodians of that public money for the public good.

Following is a message we could, if we want, say or write to our legislators today. Regardless of political party or national affiliation, this message probably applies in some way to all of our legislators. You can abbreviate it right down to “Stop handing our public money over to the military-industrial complex” or you can say much more.

One of the biggest parts of the massive and growing military-industrial complex is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. NATO is currently burning through great mountains of the money our legislators let them take. Reading all around online, I can’t figure out just how much money they are using up, but I do know that diplomatic relations cost nothing compared to what weapons and war cost.

Can you get behind some paywalls to research specific war costs for us? Anyway, look online for your own legislators’ contact info then give them a piece of your mind. Adapt my wording as desired.

[Legislator],

The largest NATO war games currently in play will continue, apparently, through the month of May.

One of these days, and perhaps not so long from right now, the whole human population will see these sorts of “exercises” for what they are, a squandering of public money that does nothing but line the pockets of the already rich. And that, at the insanely diabolical risk of causing World War Three.

From NATO itself: “STEADFAST DEFENDER 24, the principal NATO multi-domain exercise for 2024, is a series of national and multinational large-scale live exercises (LIVEX) conducted across various geographical locations within SACEUR’s [the US commander’s] area of responsibility. It is the largest NATO exercise in decades, with approximately 90,000 soldiers, sailors and airmen from 31 Allies and Sweden, and it will be based on NATO’s new defence plans. The exercise demonstrates NATO’s capability to quickly deploy and reinforce in times of crisis, focusing on training for deterrence and defense across the Euro-Atlantic region.”

Deterrence and defense/defence? The whole thing sounds very aggressive. And expensive. And planet-destroying.

Military “exercises” in other areas of the world keep gobbling up our money as well.

And when the whole public wakes up to the fact that our money has been squandered WHO will be blamed? Our legislators, who, instead of letting us take care of ourselves, one another, and Mother Earth— and instead of bolstering our capabilities for cooperation and diplomacy— kept shoveling our public money into the military-industrial complex.

That is, YOU.

Unless you disavow, denounce, and defy the military-industrial complex and all its minions, YOU will be blamed.

As your constituent, I beg you to shake off all the war industries. Shake them off once and for all.

No one likes to be robbed. So none of us ordinary people need hold back from telling our legislators to invest in peace, NOT in weapons and war. And there’s no such thing as telling them too often!

About Me

I am a peace advocate based in Rockingham County, Virginia in the United States. I “lobby” my US legislators in the cause of peace on a daily basis. I consider this advocacy to be a variation on lobbying because I am going head to head against the war lobbyists of this world. I detest war and all of its various so-called justifications. Writing a daily “Peace Bit” prompt to convey my appeals, I use my Peace Bit when I call or email or visit my own elected officials. I then share it with others who also want to appeal to their legislators in the cause of peace.

To appeal to your own legislators, just search the web for all of the contact info you will need. When calling or visiting your legislators’ offices, LAVISH the staff persons with courtesy. Their jobs are not easy! In many cases, staffers are our allies and they can have tremendous influence on their bosses!

If you subscribe to my blog you will always have new Peace Bits on hand; they are different every day. You can use them for personal reflection, for appealing to your own legislators anywhere in the world, or for planning your next Letter to the Editor. I’d love to hear how your peace advocacy goes! I invite your suggestions as well.

Please invite others to sign up for Peace Bits, will you? Our international circle of Peace Bits users grows mainly by word of mouth.
