Remove weapons – Peace on May 5, 2024

Hello anti-weapons people,

Today’s Peace Bit includes some suggested wording for contacting our legislators in the cause of peace. Below that, by request, this Peace Bit also includes some suggested wording for contacting our heads-of-state.

Check online for your legislators’ and head-of-state’s contact info. I’m resorting to email today, for all of them.

There are few, only very few Members of any Parliament, Congress, or other national-level legislative body to whom the following suggested wording would NOT apply. Yes, various countries! (if yours is one of those representatives to government who actually is giving more than lip service to advocate peace, give them a big thank you)

[Legislator],

You have lamented the deaths of children and others in Palestine. You have moaned and sighed when you have spoken of the persons being held hostage in Gaza -and even of the persons being held by the Israeli/US military within Israel. You have said you wish the violence would be drastically curtailed. You have said you wish the Israeli people could feel safe and secure. You have said it’s too bad that the lion’s share of money in this world continually goes toward war. You have advocated for humanitarian aid for the children and families of Gaza, mourning the fact that babies and children and others are being starved to death.

You may have cast a vote or two to ease the suffering in occupied Palestine.

BUT YOU HAVE NOT removed Israeli/US weapons.

SO, YOU HAVE NOT ended the genocide.

I am your constituent. I refuse to accept the notion that you cannot stop the genocide. You, with your colleagues here and internationally can and must do it.

Peace advocates like me will help you. College students everywhere will help you. Palestinian people and ordinary people everywhere on Earth will thank you. Even Israeli people will thank you because stopping the genocide will make them safer!

You Members of the legislative branch are the ones with the power to force our government instantly to REMOVE WEAPONS and other war supports from the Israeli/US military.

STOP THE GENOCIDE.

And now for suggested wording for contacting our heads-of-state in the cause of peace.

There are a few heads-of-state on Earth, yes, to whom the following wording would not apply. Netanyahu is of course one. And there are a few heads-of-state who actually already are actively trying to stop the genocide (Yemen, Turkey, Colombia). The vast majority of our other heads of state on Earth— starting with Joseph “Genocide Joe” Biden (https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/)—  need to be given the following message. Also, please note that one needn’t live in the US to access President Biden’s webform. So even if for some reason the following wording doesn’t apply to your head-of-state, you can message President Biden (https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/):[

Head of State],

Stop merely lamenting the genocide of the Palestinian people by the Israeli/US military. Instead, actually STOP the genocide.

How? REMOVE/SHUT DOWN ALL ISRAELI/US WEAPONRY.

About Me

I am a peace advocate based in Rockingham County, Virginia in the United States. I “lobby” my US legislators in the cause of peace on a daily basis. I consider this advocacy to be a variation on lobbying because I am going head to head against the war lobbyists of this world. I detest war and all of its various so-called justifications. Writing a daily “Peace Bit” prompt to convey my appeals, I use my Peace Bit when I call or email or visit my own elected officials. I then share it with others who also want to appeal to their legislators in the cause of peace.

To appeal to your own legislators, just search the web for all of the contact info you will need. When calling or visiting your legislators’ offices, LAVISH the staff persons with courtesy. Their jobs are not easy! In many cases, staffers are our allies and they can have tremendous influence on their bosses!

If you subscribe to my blog you will always have new Peace Bits on hand; they are different every day. You can use them for personal reflection, for appealing to your own legislators anywhere in the world, or for planning your next Letter to the Editor. I’d love to hear how your peace advocacy goes! I invite your suggestions as well.

Please invite others to sign up for Peace Bits, will you? Our international circle of Peace Bits users grows mainly by word of mouth.
